Who is Jesus?

Over 2 billion people call themselves Christians today. Christianity is the dominant religion in the world. It begs the question, "Who is this Jesus Christ - the one whose name they all take?" This year we are on a voyage of discovery to find out Who Is Jesus? Our guidebook will be the gospel of Mark which starts with the opening sentence, The beginning of the good news about Jesus the Messiah, the Son of God… So, if you want to prepare a bit, read Mark's gospel (you can probably do it one or two evenings!). We'll discover that Jesus is God, but also man; that we can know him today and that he will return. It's a riveting story.

Compassionate and knowing
When Jesus fed the 5000 he was tired, grieving but knew that his calling was to serve the people that day and see the Kingdom of God break out. God knows our circumstances too – what is He calling you to today?
... and what does he want to do?
Liz shares how Jesus makes us family.
... and what does he want to do?
When desperate people encounter Jesus they find that he gives them more than they ask for and that he demands from them more than they expect.
Our dinner host
In Mark 14 Jesus takes the ancient liturgy of the Passover meal and changes to be all about Him. David explores the importance of this meal, and every meal, as we follow our host, Jesus.

Come as children

The Lamb of God
How do we deal with the shame and guilt in our heart? David starts at Mark 14:12 and shows why it is so important to understand how Jesus is the Lamb of God who takes away our sin.
The Risen One
We long for a happy ending to the story, it is hard-wired into us and in Mark 16 we see the gospel story turn from tragedy to triumph. David challenges us to believe in the resurrection and open the door into eternal life.
The King
Jesus was prophesied about as a King and on Palm Sunday he fulfilled that prophecy. We have a choice to make in response – do we allow Jesus to be King in our lives? A gentle King, who comes in peace on a donkey.
The drinker of the cup
He had the choice, he faced up to it and then went through with it. David examines Jesus’ prayer in Gethsemane in Mark 14:32-42
Does He know what I'm going through?
Does Jesus really know what we are going though? Drawing on Jesus’ experiences in the Garden of Gethsemane, we see that Jesus was emotional and distressed, alone, and let down by the people around him...
Who do you say I am?
In Mark's gospel Jesus asked Peter 'Who do you say I am?' Sally looks at how Peter discovers more of who his Messiah and Lord is, and challenges us that Jesus wants to reveal more of himself to us.
